General Program Questions
What is All-Star Cheerleading?
All-Star cheer is a competitive sport that combines tumbling, stunting, jumps, dance, and performance. Teams practice together and compete at events throughout the season.
What ages can participate?
We offer teams for a variety of ages and skill levels, typically starting around age 4 through high school.
Do athletes need prior experience?
Not at all! We have beginner (Novice/Prep) teams as well as Elite teams for more experienced athletes.
Team Placements and Evaluations
How are teams selected?
Teams are formed through evaluations in May. Athletes are placed based on age, skill level, and team needs.
What if my child is nervous or new?
That’s completely normal! Our coaches create a supportive environment and help guide athletes through the evaluation process.
Can my child move up during the season?
Team placements are typically set after evaluations, but skill progression is always encouraged and recognized.
Practice and Commitment
How often are practices?
- Novice/Prep Teams: Typically 1–2 practices per week
- Elite Teams: Typically 2–3 practices per week
Are practices mandatory?
We are flexible with absences during the summer due to vacations. However, beginning September 1, attendance is mandatory for all teams.
What happens if we miss practice?
Absences can impact formations and safety, so communication is very important. Please notify coaches in advance when possible.
Competitions
When is competition season?
Competition season runs from December through April.
How far do we travel?
Most competitions are within driving distance, but some may be up to 3 hours away.
Do families have to stay the whole competition?
We strongly encourage athletes to support their teammates by staying for other team performances when possible.
Costs and Fundraising
What are the costs involved?
Costs vary by team but may include:
- Monthly tuition
- Competition fees
- Choreography fees
- Uniforms
- Travel expenses
Do you offer fundraising opportunities?
Yes! We have a parents' association that runs multiple fundraisers throughout the season to help offset competition fee costs. Participation is optional but highly encouraged.

What is the difference between the different 'tiers' of teams?
Some of the tiers we offer at X-Cel include Elite, Prep & Novice:
Novice is a great option for kids who are new to the allstar world but are ready to begin performing. These teams will get scored at competition, and have a shorter routine time than the other tiers. Novice has limited stunts and tumbling
Prep is for performers with limited tumbling but want to continue to work on becoming an elite performer one day. They have a shortened routine compared to elite as well. Prep can stunt like the elite tiers.
Elite is for the athletes who have all the tumbling, performance experience, and can build stunts confidently. These performers have a longer routine and are asked to perform the most tumbling. Elite performers have high levels of technique and are extremely competitive.
